that the individual question concerning them is one of no

importance, and in our opinion it is more than being of no

importance. We have been rash, and have gone too far in

dealing with the Communists. But the persistence of the

Communists in their actions against us, has made us unable

to refrain from correcting and rectifying them. We are

filled with fear day and night, and are praying that our

friends will help us; how can it be that we enterta in any

wild ambition? Alas! Communism according to the books is

not entirely inconsistent with our principle, but the

doctrine of our late President embraces all branches of

principles, while Lenin has to make the world sacrifice

their principles to suit his. This slight difference will

lead to a great discrepancy in 1,000 miles. As we are

loyal to our Party, we have necessarily had to admit the

Communists, and as they are loyal to their own party it

is natural that they have planned against us. As the

arrow-maker and the armour-maker have selected different

professions, the result they look for must be different.

Moreover, the orange in the South of Yangtsze will become

a Chi (hawthorn) when shifted to Wai, so 80 or 90% of the

Chinese followers of the Communists have become cunning

and flattering scoundrels. When a father is a sheep-

stealer, his son will commit murder and arson this is

natural. Our admission of the Communists into our

Kuomintang is not at all unreasonable, but is inadvisable,

as has been proved by facts. We are simple and rash. A

gentleman who breaks off friendship with any man, will

never utter any foul language against him, nor will he be

wicked to him, though he keeps him away strictly. Indeed

we have not by far behaved so well as our Comrades in
